NMMS Scholarship

The Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam has recently released an official notification regarding the centrally sponsored “NMMS Scholarship” or the “National Means cum Merit Scholarship” Scheme for the financial year 2023-2024.

The NMMS Scholarship is awarded to all the meritorious students who are studying as regular students in Class IX, Class X, Class XI and Class XII in Government, Government-aided or/ and local body schools.

To be eligible for this NMMS Scholarship for Class 8, Class 9, Class 10, Class 11 and Class 12 the student’s parental income should not be more than INR 3,50,000 per annum.

NMMS Assam Scholarship Amount

The student who clears the NMMS Scholarship Exam will be given a sum of Rs. 12,000 per annum (i.e., Rs. 1000 per month)

Eligibility Criteria for NMMS Scholarship

Class: the students who are studying in Class VIII are eligible to apply for the NMMS Exam

School: Only those students who are studying under the Government and Provincialised schools under the Department of School Education, Government of Assam are eligible to get the scholarship. Students from private schools, JNVs and TVs may appear in the examination, but they will not be selected for the scholarship.

Family Income: To be eligible for this Scholarship, the student’s parental income should not be more than INR 3,50,000 per annum.

Marks:

• A minimum  of  55 %  marks  or  equivalent  grade  in  Class  VII  examination is  needed for appearing NMMS Examination (5% less for SC/ ST students)
• The awardees should get a minimum of 55% marks in Class IX and XI and 60% in Class X for continuance of the scholarship (Relaxable by 5% for SC/ ST candidates) in next higher classes.

Who are not eligible for NMMS Scholarship?

• Students studying in private schools may appear in this scholarship exam; but they won’t be eligible for this scholarship.
• The students studying in ‘Kendriya Vidyalaya’ and ‘Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas;‘ are not entitled to get this scholarship.
• Students studying in Residential Schools run by the State Government Institutions, where facilities like boarding, lodging and education are provided and students studying in private schools are also not eligible for the scholarship under this scheme. 

NMMS Exam Fee

The candidates will have to pay the following examination fee to complete their online application process. The fee may vary according to the reservation category of the candidates. The complete details regarding the fee are given below:

NMMS Scholarship Selection Process

The following are the conditions for the selection for the NMMS Assam Scholarship:

• A written examination of Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based will be held on 18th November 2023 for the selection of candidates under NMMS Scholarship Scheme, Assam. 
• The question paper will be in both Assamese & English medium only. The OMR sheet will be in English medium.
• Previous 5 years’ question papers are available in the ‘Bidyarthi‘ app at Google Play Store. 
• Children with disability will be given extra time, as applicable.
• There are two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) .
